How to Install Sod
- Sod Installation begins by laying sod rolls on the longest/straightest line that the site provides.
- Rolls should be installed tight together without gaps or overlap.
- Sod can be cut with any blade or knife, but the tool of choice is a utility knife.
- After the first row is installed the second row should be started with a roll that is cut in half in order to offset the end seams. Think of a brick layout for installing sod – less long seams is better.
- Rolling of sod is only recommended if the soil of the ground and the bottom of the sod are not making contact.
- Watering (deep enough to wet ground a couple inches under the sod) should take place within 30 minutes of installing sod. Sod should stay wet (frequent, low quantity watering) for the next 2 weeks. After that time period the sod will have enough root growth to sustain itself for longer time periods.
